Relax people, there were always alternatives to Installous. You can even choose which one you prefer. Personally i like vShare better, but AppCake is also good.
Also, Installous used Apptrackr as source. Apptrackr is a website, and if you access it, you'll see that it's very similar to Installous, the only difference is that you'll need to Sync the apps you download with iTunes (though i'm not 100% sure it will still be up since Installous is gone)
From the below extract, this random blog is making out Apple was the key player in closing down installous.
"Apple was against jailbreak and installous from the start. Apple build up extreme pressure and opposition that made Hackulous to do this termination."
When you actually read from what installous actually said and come across 'After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town' would suggest that the community wasn't shut down by Apple but more by the people who used the software they made and didn't acknowledge them.
Sounds to me like this blog is doing a bit stirring up dislike? Or has my love for Apple clouded my judgement?

"We are very sad to announce that Hackulous is shutting down. After many years, our community has become stagnant and our forums are a bit of a ghost town. It has become difficult to keep them online and well-moderated, despite the devotion of our staff. We're incredibly thankful for the support we've had over the years and hope that new, greater communities blossom out of our absence.
alas, bad news as it is, first there isn't a jailbreak for iOS6 running iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 and now with the installous gone , i don't think things would be the same again
