Mashable: Search is supposed to be the heart of Google, right? But an entrepreneur has pointed out that the search engine's site design doesn't cater much to showing organic search results these days.

looking at those results, isnt the 12% and 17% of ads paid ads by third parties?
example if i own a advertising company "X", i get company "Y" to pay me a fixed fee to put ads on google. for every result clicked, i pay google.

or am i mistaken about this.
thing is if im right, that portion is 50% a result based on your search and 50% advertising.

... it's still a terrible result for what was once the best search-engine in the world.

It's sad to have seen them decline in quality so much, over the last few years.

MidnytRain3934d ago

Maybe it's a principle thing, but I've no issue with flicking my finger to see the rest of my results, especially when the ads up top may actually be helpful at times.

It's a clickbait article. It depends on what you search for, if you're looking for local establishments, you'll see a lot of ads for local businesses. However if you're looking for something that's not a business, you won't see as many ads.

On top of that, the "study" is also looking at whitespace on the screen.

Well that's Google's #1 source of revenue. Also AdBlock Plus.

Ads gonna add.

I miss the days before the net was badly monetized as it is now. Advertising is pretty invasive and I heard Google paid the people behind Adblock to whitelist them.

When the adblockers sell out to the advertiser, then it's time to search for an alternative.

Before there were ads I couldn't find anything unless I knew exactly what I was looking for. Too much crap was at the top.

Just searched from my google. Nearly no ads, official links higher than 'unofficial'

Same here, I just Googled Google from Chrome and got pages of official Google tools.

Google Testing Banner Ads in Search Results

From Webdevo.ie

"Despite making a promise all the way back in 2005 to never have banner ads in their search results Google has now done just that. Or more precisely it has begun a small testing process centered around adding banner advertisements to their search results page."

'Search With Camera' Has Been Removed From Google Search, And We Have No Idea Why

Android Police- At the end of last year, a Google Search update came out that added a "Search with Camera" feature. With Google Search, you could fire up your camera, snap a picture of something, and it would do an image search - it was basically Google Goggles integration. Besides the usual Goggles stuff, it was also really useful for scanning QR codes.
