Windows 8 Sales Well Below Projections, Plenty of Blame to Go Around

Win Super Lite: Sales of Windows 8 PCs are well below Microsoft’s internal projections and have been described inside the company as disappointing. But here’s the catch: The software giant blames the slow start on lackluster PC maker designs and availability, further justifying its new Surface strategy. But Windows 8’s market acceptance can be blamed on many factors.

Man, you just have to love these dramatic paragraphs. After reading one you would swear any company was going bankrupt.

... but I for one am absolutely not interested in getting Windows 8.

I know you can do some crap to 'fix' the thing back to a normal 'desktop' environment, but I would rather just have Windows 7.

Which is annoying, cause I'm looking to buy a new laptop and I was browsing the adverts this afternoon, and all the new laptops are now being sold with Windows 8 pre-installed, which means they're not an option for me, unless there's a way I can just get Windows 7 instead.

Some sites tend to overblow things.

I just wish MS would have the new start menu as an option, not the end all.

People like options, take that away and your likely to breed resentment.

I have windows 8 and I love it! The start button is essentially the new start menu. I have to say though, windows 8 is more for the advanced users.

I agreed because i am enjoying Windows 8. But "windows 8 is more for the advanced users" is totally not true.
This thing is over-simplified beyond belief.

Whaaaaat? You mean those commercials where they were throwing around tablets and clicking keyboards on and off and on and off and the other with the little girl "painting" with an app didn't convince people to run out and get Windows 8? And the informed weren't ecstatic about the same performance or the tablet-focus?

Oh man....I would be blown away if this report turned out to be true.

Windows 8 is tied mostly to the PC market which has been in decline for some time. This should not surprise anyone.

Mobile/Internet is the future. Until MS takes it seriously they will not do much.
