Edit: Just read the actual story, the punishment ranges from 5 to 20 years. I'm not really convinced that jail is the right place for these people though, if they haven't actually harmed a child in their life. I'd imagine it's more of a psychological issue, requiring professional treatment.

I'm sometimes even sickened by society for labelling these people as "creeps" and "danger to their children", as I've read articles in which people went to jail for owning a few pictures, but led an otherwise spotless life, helping people in need and getting high-education into medicine and physics. I feel it's important to reflect on who a person is in general, and not judge them solely on if they own a few pictures of 14 year olds.

A creep, if you ask me, is someone who sits by the playground watching the children play with something other than joy in mind. A dangerous person to your children is usually someone you know, and as such I believe that current trends in America, e.g. Sex offender registry, are incredibly misleading and actually make the situation worse. Parents are more likely to let their guard down when the said person is an acquaintance that's not in the registry (which is usually the case), which gives predators a window of opportunity
