6 Reasons The Guy Who's Fixing Your Computer Hates You

Cracked.com writes:
By my calculations, about 96 percent of all computer repairs are done, not by the local computer guy or the Geek Squad, but by The Friend Who is Good With Computers. Often that friend is nothing more than an average computer user who knows how to look up error messages on Google, but it doesn't matter -- once they become known as TFWIGWC, they will get the call every time something goes wrong. And they will fix it, probably for free, because TFWIGWC pities you.

So true I could barely muster a laugh to a lot of it...My standard answer due to these things is now "I don't know you should take it somewhere" It's messed up but I figure maybe people paying money will make them realize that clicking YES on every pop up box is not how you operate a computer.

lol that was a good read! "I will beat you until it causes hydrogen fusion." I'm gonna use that from now on!

I don't mind fixing my friends, co workers and boss computers, they always pay me without me asking! But I have one friend that even after I fixed her computer FREE of charge (I knew she had no money and needed help) she complained that I took too long!!! and is not that I took too long O.o, I just didn't want to drive to her place 40 min away just to return it to her!

Tried and true testament. I don't do it for people anymore as well because it simply gets annoying after a while. People are not grateful for what you do, and due to their incompetence, they blame you when things go wrong.

@Racer-X

I agree, I have been a computer tech for more than 13 years. But what you said about People are not grateful for what you do is right on the money.Not to mention, People are always comparing the Tech store serves with independent tech work. Sadly, though, People don't realized that the Tech store have limited options to fixing their computer to avoid any lawsuits. Oh, and most Tech store can work on computers that doesn't have a window key strap to the side of the unit, unless him or her provides a OS disc to the store.So again, your commit is right on the money.

Good post!

I swear, I've seen people who get emails from unknown addresses label "(nothing)" and the only thing in it is an attatchment, that literally says "suicide.exe" and they still decide to download it and run it and then $hit themselves and don't understand why their computer is broken....but I forgive them because I remember when I had my first computer and wanted to "clean" up my seemingly "un-needed" files so I went into the windows directory and started deleting all the .dll files like vbrun300 and shit like that until my computer shut down and told me to go away. Awww the good old days.

System32 is a virus that infects your Windows directory and turns it into a Sega game.

this article is 100% spot on. i couldnt help but laugh now and then. funny stuff. true but funny. i still fix it for friends and family though. i got my standard tools/programs i use nowdays, it takes me no longer than couple hours to sort em out.

when they ask what was the problem, i say its an ID-10-T error. normally takes em a while to figure it out ;)
